How do specific surface area and particle size distribution change when granular media dissolve?

نویسندگان

چکیده

The measured dissolution rate of a granular medium depends on its surface area and how the changes during course measurement. Moreover, assumption that specific either remains constant or initially increases is not always valid. This paper demonstrates when particle size distribution has sufficient variance, instantaneous change in can be negative, even before smallest particles dissolve away. concept explained using spherical particles, extended for use with prismatic demonstrated experimentally gypsum powder. For commercial powder used, decreases by about 50% first 10% mass loss water, so this effect may have practical importance significant impact uncertainty reported rates batch reactors.

Particle size distribution of limestone fillers: granulometry and specific surface area investigations

Mineral fillers can be defined as “inert materials included in a mix design for some useful purpose”. They can be added to compounds in order to complete a large variety of final properties without increasing costs or to improve specific characteristics like hardness, brittleness, impact strength, compressive strength, softening point, fire resistance, surface texture, electrical conductivity, ...

prediction of specific surface area and cation exchange capacity using fractal dimension of soil particle size distribution

cation exchange capacity and specific surface area are among some of the important soil characteristics the direct measurement of which is laborious, costly and time consuming. therefore, fractal dimension of particle size distribution has been widely studied in relation with many such dynamic and static processes as transmission of water and solutes, water holding capacity, heat storage and co...

Hydrodynamic Model for Particle Size Segregation in Granular Media

We present a hydrodynamic theoretical model for “Brazil nut” size segregation in granular materials. We give analytical solutions for the rise velocity of a large intruder particle immersed in a medium of monodisperse fluidized small particles. We propose a new mechanism for this particle size-segregation due to buoyant forces caused by density variations which come from differences in the loca...

Correlating Cellulose Nanocrystal Particle Size and Surface Area.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are negatively charged nanorods that present challenges for characterization of particle size distribution and surface area-two of the common parameters for characterizing nanomaterials. CNC size distributions have been measured by two microscopy methods: atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The agreement between the two methods...

How do we change practice when we have the evidence?

Translating research findings into practice includes myriad pragmatic realities, including understanding the suitability of the data to a particular patient group, writing new guidelines for occupational therapy practitioners, facilitating adoption of the guidelines, and instituting new patterns of care for patients. The process is more than a matter of disseminating the information to practiti...
